In response to the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Fiona, including widespread flooding and severe power outages, PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation are partnering with the American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen, United Way Worldwide, and other local partners to support critical relief efforts in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation are mobilizing quickly to provide $200,000 USD in funding as well as other urgently needed items including PepsiCo beverages and food products through a variety of pathways including:
- Partnering with the American Red Cross through the PepsiCo Foundation to provide on-the-ground aid in Puerto Rico and support for the needs of communities, including critical resources and health and mental health services
- Partnering with World Central Kitchen through the PepsiCo Multicultural business unit to scale efforts with local restaurants in Puerto Rico and serve approximately 14,000 additional meals to the most impacted communities
- Donating PepsiCo food and beverage products from regional PepsiCo businesses alongside local bottling partners to United Way Worldwide in Puerto Rico and local relief efforts in the Dominican Republic in partnership with the national government
“While we are very thankful our employees are safe, there is plenty of work that needs to be done to support our communities in face of this catastrophe that has truly impacted the island,” said the PepsiCo local leadership in Puerto Rico, represented by Juan Jose Wipe, General Manager for PepsiCo Foods and Juan Giron, who leads the Beverages business. “Working alongside our non-profit partner United Way Worldwide and local bottling partner, Central America Bottling Co., allows us to deliver on-the-ground emergency support and critical resources – because at PepsiCo, we are stronger when we act together hand-in-hand with our colleagues and communities.”
“In an effort to lend a hand to those impacted, we’re proud to partner with the American Red Cross and World Central Kitchen to support on-the-ground efforts in Puerto Rico to help provide shelter, water, meals, and a bit of relief to our friends and neighbors during this difficult time,” said C.D. Glin, Vice President, PepsiCo Foundation and Global Head of Philanthropy, PepsiCo.
“World Central Kitchen is first to the frontlines, providing fresh meals in response to crises while working to build resilient food systems with locally led solutions.” said Jason Collis, World Central Kitchen’s Vice President of Relief. “In light of Hurricane Fiona, support like PepsiCo’s allows us to work with the urgency of now and support all those severely affected with a warm, comforting meal. We are so grateful!”
“The Red Cross is thankful for PepsiCo Foundation’s generous donation, which enables us to offer emergency supplies, emotional support and hope to families and communities in the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona,” said Elizabeth Penniman, Vice President of Communications, American Red Cross.
The PepsiCo Foundation has a longstanding history of community relief efforts and is a member of the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program, granting at least $500,000 annually to help the Red Cross pre-position supplies, secure shelters, maintain vehicles, and train volunteers to ensure they are prepared to quickly respond to future disasters.
To further support Hurricane Fiona relief efforts, the PepsiCo Foundation will also match employee donations to organizations providing critical relief for impacted communities.
PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation urge others to offer their support. Donations can be made online in support of relief efforts to the American Red Cross and World Central Kitchen.
