Aligned with industry regulatory standards, the initiative is aimed at ensuring reliable operations

Correia Pinto – Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable solutions in paper packaging, will conduct a maintenance shutdown at its Correia Pinto Unit in Santa Catarina from May 8 to 17. The action is part of the mill’s operational plan and is designed to ensure the proper functioning of equipment, thus guaranteeing reliable operations and the safety of both employees and the community.

Maintenance shutdowns are conducted every 15 months to comply with industry Regulatory Standards (NRs). During the period, the operations at the mill are suspended for preventive maintenance of equipment, and for improvements to the industrial structure, such as technological upgrades and other initiatives to increase  productivity. Note that at Klabin, the different stages of maintenance shutdown are defined based on project management best practices, with the focus on safety, integration and quality of the production processes at the manufacturing units.

The Company will be assisted by specific technical partners during the activities and will give priority to hiring temporary workers from the city and adjacent regions. This will significantly boost the local economy, both by increasing income generation for professionals and through a greater circulation of people in the city, positively impacting related services such as transport, accommodation and food. Around 1,300 temporary workers will carry out the planned actions within the defined timeframe.

Klabin reiterates its commitment to the safety of its employees and the community during the period. As such, it continues to follow the protocols for combating the spread of COVID-19, such as mandatory submission of proof of vaccination, cleaning of environments and use of protective masks. The company also maintains strict control over the companies contracted to ensure that the best practices are followed.

More information about the maintenance shutdown can be found on the website. Klabin is also at the disposal of the community at the toll free number 0800 721 0228.

Transparent dialogue with the community

Preparations for the Maintenance Shutdown at the Correia Pinto unit included a meeting held on April 26 to present the plan to the community. The meeting, held by Klabin at its mill, was designed to maintain its close and transparent relations with the city and was attended by representatives from the municipal government (town hall and city council), public health, city hospital, military, civil and environmental police departments, fire department, store managers association and union of paper mill workers.
